April 15, 2003

The Old Car Club held their regular monthly meeting at the Civic Center on April 15, 2003. President Larry Pierson was the presiding officer. There were eleven members present.

Bill moved and Roger seconded a motion to approve the minutes of the last meeting. Motion was carried.

Butch reported on the progress of the Friday evening portion of the June Car Show. South Main Street will be roped off from the stoplights to the Orpheum Theatre. The B-Q will be held just for people who enter a car Friday evening. This B-Q will be held at one of the local parks. A one-man band from Canada has been hired to perform on Main Street. His show will run from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm. We will still be able to park cars on Main Street. Later in the evening, the cars will leave Main Street, form up for the parade and then come down Main Street with all their light decorations.

Butch will see if anyone wants to provide a concession stand for the Saturday show.

Roger reported that the t-shirt design should be done this next week and possibly finished by the middle of May.

Discussion then turned to the Sunset Drive-in’s Hot August Night Car Show. A motion was made by Butch and seconded by Roger. The motion stated that the show start at 4:00pm, that the entry fee be raised to $ 10.00 and that the fees be split 50/50 between the Sunset and the car club. After discussion, the motion passed.

There being no further business, Larry then provided a brief seminar about electricity; its characteristics, how to work with it and how to be safe with it.

Marvin then moved that the meeting be adjourned. Perry seconded the motion, which then passed.

Members present: Larry Pierson, Bill Lord, Harley Kleppen, Brad Wilson, Perry Stratton, Butch Nielsen, Roger Schwanz, Marvin Wagnild, Mike Ross, Jerry Phelps and Todd Johnson

March 18, 2003

The regular monthly meeting of the Old Car Club was held at the Roger Schwanz shop on Tuesday, March 18, 2003. President Larry Pierson was the presiding officer.

There were no minutes or treasury reports given.

Roger gave the first report of the evening concerning the 2003 t-shirts. He moved and Perry seconded a motion that since the shirts have the pictures Arnold Boe’s Model A and Waldo Morstad’s 1930 Austin; that their cars also be the 2003 Club Choice cars. After short discussion, the motion was passed. In another motion, Roger moved and Perry seconded to have the words “In Memory of Arnold Boe and Waldo Morstad” added to the image. After discussion, this motion also passed.

Mike moved and Richard seconded a motion that the club order 75 2003 t-shirts. After discussion, this motion also passed.

Larry relayed a report from Butch concerning the Friday, June 6, events. Butch has not found anybody to put on the B-Q, but he is still looking. He may have found a musician from Canada to perform on Friday night and possibly Saturday. A more detailed report will be available at the April meeting.

Mike asked the club how much money should be spent on advertising. Almost  $600.00 was spent in 2002. Of that, $120.00 was spent on posters, $ 175.00 was spent with the Plentywood media, $ 288.00 was spent at KXMD and KEYZ in Williston and    $ 14.56 was spent on postage. Perry moved and Harley seconded a motion that we use the same advertising as last year, plus the Scobey radio station. And, that use all the free advertising sources as we have done in the past. After discussion, the motion carried.

No further business, meeting was adjourned to the shop area where Roger demonstrated a cooling system leak sealer, how to remove door windows from old trucks and explained the steps he will use to fix his new toy, a 2000 GMC pickup.

Members present: Larry Pierson, Richard Thompson, Mike Ross, Jerry Phelps, Marvin Wagnild, Brad Wilson, Luke Pattee, Perry Stratton, Roger Schwanz, Ron Burton, Harley Kleppen, Bill Lord, Casey Peterson, Ron Thompson

Minutes

February 18, 2003

The February 18, 2003 meeting of the Old Car Club was held at the Civic center under the direction of President Larry Pierson. There were thirteen members present.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved by a motion made by Roger and seconded by Harley. Motion carried.

The treasury report showed a balance of $2,687.18. That report was accepted with a motion by Butch, seconded by Harley and approved.

Roger reported that t-shirts would cost  $13.52 per shirt on a 50-shirt order, the same as last year. This year’s design will feature cars owned by Waldo Morstad and Arnold Boe, deceased members of the club.

Perry reported that the balance beam frame is put together. It just needs a deck and be painted. Curtiss Farm & Auto will donate the paint and Brad will paint it. The deck will be 7 feet by 20 feet.

Terry reported that his dad was about 75% done with the trophies. Mike reported that the plaques for the trophies had been ordered.

Richard brought samples of the 2003 show poster to the meeting. A couple details concerning the Friday evening B-Q need to be changed. Butch, Richard and Mike will take care of them and make the necessary changes. Otherwise, the poster looked very good.

Other discussion about the Friday evening part of the show included having KATQ radio play 50s-60s music during the evening, especially during the parade of lights, finding a sponsor for the B-Q, and if the B-Q should be just for people who bring a car or the general public. These items will be looked into and reported on at a future meeting.

Larry then asked the members what they would like to do at future meetings. Have more demonstrations, put together some tours and have club members build pinewood derby cars or valve cover racecars for races were some ideas mentioned.

There being no further business, meeting was adjourned.

Members present: Larry Pierson, Mike Ross, Butch Nielsen, Richard Thompson, Harley Kleppen, Daryl Olson, Brad Wilson, Ron Burton, Terry Wagner, Marvin Wagnild, Bill Lord, Richard Rice, Perry Stratton

Minutes

January 21, 2003

The Old Car Club held their regular monthly meeting at the Civic Center on January 21, 2003. Vice-President Dale Adams was the presiding officer. There were nine members present.

Minutes of the November meeting were read and approved.

There was no treasury report.

Dale reported on the Borderland Car Club of Crosby Christmas party. It was a nice gathering with lots of visiting and good food.

Roger reported on some of the planned events of the North Dakota Street Rod Association of which he is a member. The first show of the season is in Minot in February.

Butch reported that on Friday evening, June 6, the car show could be started with  a barbecue, DJ music at the Town Square and a parade of lights later in the evening. Cars in the parade would have lights in or under their cars and then cruise through the streets ending up at South Main Street. The business section of Main Street would have a speaker system hooked up for music during the parade. Butch advised that the club get some other organization to sponsor the evening so that club members could enjoy the evening rather than work. Mike moved that the club make a Friday evening barbecue, parade and DJ music part of the car show and that it be advertised as such. Roger seconded the motion, which then passed. Butch noted that one organization that may be interested in putting together the Friday night event was the local Lions Club.

Perry reported that the V-Trailer Co. was working on a balance beam and probably be done with it next week. The cost of the beam is estimated to be about $1,100.00. One suggestion to help offset the cost of the beam was to sell advertising spots on the deck. We will take up this issue at a later meeting.

Mike reported that the trophy sponsors have been notified and will be billed in March. Bill Wagner is working on the trophies now and will have them ready by May 1, so we can display them downtown during May. Roger reported that BC Glass donated the glass for the trophies.

There being no further business, meeting was adjourned. Members then went to Greg Fellon’s garage for an upholstery demonstration.

Members present: Dale Adams, Perry Stratton, Roger Schwanz, Marvin Wagnild, Butch Nielsen, Bill Lord, Harley Kleppen, Luke Pattee, Mike Ross

Minutes

April 16, 2002

The Apri116, 2002 meeting of the Old Car Club of Plentywood was conducted at the Civic Center under the direction of Vice President Larry Pierson. There were nine members and four guests present.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved by motion made by Greg and seconded by Harley. Motion passed.

The club treasury has $ 3.647.88 on account.

Roger reported on club t-shirt costs and design. His source will cost $ 13.52 per shirt with a picture front and back, on a 50-shirt order. If the club orders a second 50-shirt order, the cost for that order will be $8.90 per shirt. By motion made. seconded and passed, Roger was authorized to order 50 shirts in the sizes of medium. large, x-large and 2x large.

Mike reported on the advertising he has done for the car show. Advertising has been or will be done by poster, Internet, radio, both Plentywood and Williston stations, KXMD- TV of Williston, Sheridan County News and the Greeter. The local Chamber of Commerce has donated $400.00 to help with out of town advertisements.

Jerry brought up a concern of the downtown businesses about the club moving the show off Main Street. The show plan is in place and will not be changed for this show. At the June meeting, the club will review the show and decide where the best spot is for the 2003 show.

Mike moved and Greg seconded a motion that Luke Pattee’s Mustang be the 2002 Club Choice Car and that Jerry Phelps Dodge will be the second choice. Motion carried.

Mike brought to the attention of the club, that a number of students at Plentywood High School are exploring the possibility of forming a high school car club. Larry will meet with Mrs. Thompson and find out more details.

Greg reported that Perry Stratton is planning a cruise night to occur some Saturday in August. Some early plans include a B-Q, contests and a movie. Perry will try to have a poster ready for display at the car show and also be available to visit with out of town clubs about the event. Also, the DQ would possibly like to do a 50's carhop at their restaurant. Could be a more interesting summer for our club for a change.

In the same line of thought, members of the club discussed the possibility of turning the car show into a two and a half or three-day show. Since we have our show on Saturday and the Elk’s club have their Bump N Run on Sunday, we only have to come with some activities to do on Friday afternoon and evening. A cruise night ending up at the Drive-In is one possibility. This idea will be discussed more fully at the June meeting.

Roger reported that the North Dakota Street Rod Assoc. will be holding a summer tour starting in Grand Forks, traveling through Minot, Williston. Dickinson, Bismarck and ending in Fargo. Tour dates are July 24-26. A tour of rod shops is planned for Minot. Roger reported that there are some really nice shops in Minot.

Since no further official club business was on the agenda, Daryl moved and Bill seconded a motion to adjourn. Motion carried.

After meeting was adjourned, Casey and Chad Peterson discussed the idea of a local 1/8 mile drag strip. The proposed site for the track is near the Civic Center heading towards the Old Tractor Club grounds. There would be five events per summer. There will be more details at a future date
